What’s the plan, Stan?
Your weekend: December 12 – 13
Cruise Grandview. Delight in the Short North. Date downtown. What’s your pleasure?
ART | Open House @ Junctionview Studios (Grandview) www.junctionviewstudios.com
Get lost in the labyrinth of artists’ studios that is Junctionview. Refreshments and work for sale. Worthy add-on to any plan of the afternoon or evening. Anyone else seeing a Grandview day-into-night Saturday taking shape? When was the last time you visited Chef Hubert at Spagio?
Saturday, December 12, 4 – 10 PM
FOOD | Mastering the Art of Italian Cooking – Baking for the Holidays @ the cucina of Deborah Quinci (Victorian Village) 614.370.2038
If you met Deborah at the Sicilian Dinner she presented at Rigsby’s, you will remember her passion, uncompromising standards and native flair that framed the feast. And if you can approximate the magic she makes in a kitchen, your guests will not soon forget you, either. Chef Deborah Quinci invites students into her personal kitchen for these intimate classes. Give yourself a gift and attend Sweet and Savory, where she’ll prepare with you savory ricotta crostata, pear and frangipane tart, and basic biscotti. Nothing basic about it. $65 per person. Space limited. The series continues in January with Mastering: Handmade Pasta.
Saturday, December 12, 1 – 3 PM
OPERA | Mario Lanza Tribute Concert @ Palace Theatre (downtown) www.operacolumbus.org/productions
Magnificent Mario (1921-1959) was a legendary tenor of the cinema, in his day. Tributes to his artistry will be presented by three well-respected tenors of our day, along with clips from his film career. No longer must you pair downtown theater outings with private club dining. Remember that Due Amici, Tip Top, Mitchell’s and Latitude 41 are all walking distance around the corner.
Saturday, December 12, 8 PM
YOGA | complimentary Tracey Gardner Method class @ Lululemon (Short North) www.traceygardnermethod.com
CMH has promoted Yoga Tracey events before and some of you may be asking, “What’s the big deal?” Now, you can find out for FREE – with little more to risk than 750 calories and some pride, when you wipe the floor with your attempts to keep up. Lululemon showroom – hiding discretely in The Dakota – is a perfect launching point for Short North shopping. Cool down by walking to the boutiques right next door. Just – please – don’t try on anything. If you’re used to the Short North on Gallery Hops, then the Saturday afternoon version of this holiday shopping venue will seem breezy, compared to other options. Head towards North Star or Tasi. It’s okay: You’ve earned your bacon.
Saturday, December 12, 10:15 AM
BALLET | The Nutcracker @ Ohio Theatre (downtown) www.balletmet.org
If this isn’t already one of your holiday traditions, you may want to try it on for size. Balletmet.org suggests special offers from partner restaurants – Barrio, Black Creek Bistro, Black Olive, Haiku, Rigsby’s, Spagio and Z Cucina. The show runs through the 23rd but we recommend a Sunday afternoon, with the best sideshow of future ballerinas – big-eyed and dressed in their holiday best. Tickets $29 – $66.
Sunday, December 13, 2 PM
FILM | Antichrist @ Landmark Gateway (Campus)
http://www.landmarktheatres.com/market/Columbus/Columbus_frameset.htm
A psychological thriller by a Danish director Lars von Trier, the maker of Dancer in the Dark, Breaking the Waves. Gruesome or fascinating? Lars von Trier is yet again exploring the dark side of the human mind. Starring Willem Dafoe and Serge Gainsbourg’s lovely daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg. For shows and tickets, please check the theater’s website.
